ABS-CBN Star Magic has established the country’s biggest and brightest stars in 2008. And as we usher in 2009, the country’s premiere star maker gives you more revelations in its prime roster of talents.

Piolo Pascual
Piolo ended 2008 grandly with the premiere of his Star Cinema movie Love Me Again in the US, a first in the history of the local movie industry, plus his win as this year’s Star Awards for Television’s Best Actor. And he’s obviously raring to start the year right with his movie with Angel Locsin as Star Cinema’s New Year offering, showing on January 15.
Piolo is also getting ready to shoot the Korean drama remake of Lovers in Paris with his newest leading lady, KC Concepcion. But Piolo is not only busy with commitments on TV and film, he too is preparing a special Valentine concert at the Araneta Coliseum on February 21 with fellow ASAP ’08 crooners Mark Bautista, Sam Milby, Christian Bautista and Erik Santos. The concert will also have special provincial shows in Cebu (February 14) and Bacolod (February 28).
Star Magic’s main man continues his streak as one of the country’s leading endorsers. He’s still the face for San Mig Coffee, Max’s Fried Chicken, Timex, Skytravel, Smart Telecommunications, Bench and Bench Pure Passion.

Sam Milby
Sam’s year may have been in a bit of a turmoil because of his love life, but this did not stop him from having a good 2008. He has officially launched himself as the showbiz world’s Rockoustic Heartthrob after having his first major solo concert at the Aliw Theater last October 25. Sam has also proven himself an actor with substance n his first indie film, Cul De Sac, which earned rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. The Fil-American also is very happy with the good ratings of his teleserye Dyosa and hopes that it continues to soar in 2009. Another TV project in the works for Sam this 2009 is the drama Buhay ng Buhay Ko where he will be starring opposite Angel Locsin and Diether Ocampo.
Sam also joins his ASAP buddies Piolo Pascual, Mark Bautista, Erik Santos and Christian Bautista in a special Valentine show slated for February 21 at the Araneta Coliseum. And in between shows, the singer actor is also set to release a new album in collaboration with his former leading lady Toni Gonzaga.
Although busy with shooting for his new movie I Love You So under Star Cinema with Bea Alonzo and Derek Ramsay, Sam does not forget his endorsing duties for Smart Telecommunications, i2i, Unisilver watches and Dermablend.

John Lloyd Cruz
John Lloyd has definitely made a mark in 2008 by landing the much coveted role of Armando in I Love Betty La Fea and having a box-office movie, Star Cinema’s A Very Special Love opposite Sarah Geronimo. But in 2009, audiences will definitely see a bigger and bolder John Lloyd as he delves into the role of a gay person in a Star Cinema special presentation, where he will act with the one and only Star for All Season’s Vilma Santos.But before he gets into all that serious stuff, John Lloyd will reprise his role as Miggy in the sequel of A Very Special Love, You’ve Changed My Life.
John Lloyd has also recently renewed his contract as the endorser of Biogesic and Greenwich and will also be lending his services for a food brand and chocolate drink this 2009.

Diether Ocampo
Diet remains a Kapamilya and has a new project with his home network to prove it. After the successful run of Iisa Pa Lamang in 2008, where he starred opposite Claudine Barretto, Diether is set to shoot a new drama, this time with also a very much in demand actress, Angel Locsin.
The actor is also very much into his charity work and will be pushing more projects for the benefit KIDS Foundation, which he established himself.
Diether too remains with his Bench family in 2009 and will be seen in new campaigns around the metro soon.

Bea Alonzo
Bea has become a household name because of her lauded portrayal of lovable Betty on ABS-CBN’s take of the hit Columbian soap, I Love Betty La Fea. Bea was also hailed by Guillermo Memorial Mendoza Award, Box Office Queen in 2008. And hopefully she will also reign supreme in the box-office in 2009 with her movie And I Love You So opposite hunks Sam Milby and Derek Ramsay.
Bea continues with her endorsing duties for Kashieca, 4G food supplements, Clear shampoo and as the newest face of Belo Essentials in 2009.

Angelica Panganiban
She has made being a villainess quite fabulous with her role as Scarlet in 2008’s hit drama Iisa Pa Lamang. Now, Angelica is quite raring to sink her acting chops in Rubi (ang bidang kontrabida) where she will be playing another interesting character.
The actress is also set to star in her first indie movie with Bea Alonzo, which is produced by award winning actor Albert Martinez. Angelica will see her Iisa Pa Lamang co-star Gabby Concepcion on the big screen too, in Star Cinema’s Mariposa, which will also star her real-life sweetheart Derek Ramsay.
Angelica will however continue to ooze sexiness and show her funny side on ABS-CBN’s comedy show Banana Split.

Kristine Hermosa
Kristine is back with a vengeance in 2009, returning to the small screen with Maruja, the last of the Susan Roces’ Cinema Collection. Also with the success of her recent Maalaala Mo Kaya episode, which reunited her with former ‘ka-love team’ Jericho Rosales, she will start shooting a movie with him and Malaysian actress Carmen Soo soon. Plus, with the ‘Echo-Tin’ fever still going strong, a soap opera is also lined up for the much-loved tandem of showbiz.
Kristine is also the newest endorser of Cinderella and beauty connoisseur Aeskultura.

John Lloyd Cruz on his awesome success in 2008

John Lloyd said, “Sana it won’t pull me down.”

After Maging Sino Ka Man Book 2 ended during the early part of 2008, John Lloyd Cruz kept on fielding more successful projects including his movie A Very Special Love and his first romantic-comedy series I Love Betty La Fea. Coupled with his much-applauded surprise appearance during Sarah Geronimo’s concert The Next One and the start of production on their follow-up movie, 2008 is certainly full of defining moments in his career. On the other hand, he couldn’t help but dwell on its downside as well. “Andami-daming dapat ipagpasalamat. [Pero] kung meron mang isang parte, na hindi naman sa nakakalungkot [pero] sana next year mas makuha ko, I want to spend more time with my friends and my family,” he admitted to ABS-CBN.com. “Pero siyempre, when you talk about priorities, siyempre work muna ‘di ba? Pero I am hopeful na next year kahit madaming trabahong dumating, hindi pa rin magsa-suffer yung time ko with my family, for my friends, and most especially for myself,” he added.

As it happens, John Lloyd has barely time to think of how he’s going to welcome the year ahead with his hands full of work to do during this holiday season. “Honestly hindi ko pa siya nararamdaman. Ang daming trabaho this December, sobra-sobrang trabaho. So parang I am almost suffocated. Pero I take things as it comes eh, huwag muna nating unahan. Kung ano’ng mangyayari next year, it will handle itself. Sa ngayon there’s I Love Betty La Fea, there’s Part 2 of A Very Special Love, mga bagong pumapasok na endorsements… dun muna ako nakatutok,” he said in earnest.

Being one of the most bankable actors and sought-after leading men in the business brings much prestige and it is definitely not an easy feat. With all the commitments that he has to deal with, John Lloyd hopes that he can accomplish them all without burning out himself. “Sana lang I’d be able to handle it kasi it’s been overwhelming eh. Yung success na natatamo ko, yung mga dumadating sa akin… Ang wish ko lang sana mahandle ko sila wisely, with the kind of wisdom na magdadala sa akin pa-forward. Sana yung bigat, yung joy ng trabaho ko ngayon, at iba pa’ng dumadating sa akin, sanait won’t pull me down. Do you understand? Kasi mahirap eh. Hindi madali to handle these things no. Yun ang Christmas wish ko, sana mahandle ko ang lahat ng ito ng tama,” he shared.

Aside from that, he also looks forward to the time where there would be a complete solidarity in the showbiz industry. “I am just a very, very small part of this whole system. Pero kaming [mga artista] kapag pinag-uusapan how to improve the system, parang lahat united eh. I’m doing my part, I am trying to do my part and marami din diyan [na gusto yung mangyari]. So kung meron man, I realized na kaya namang i-improve. It’s just that yung willingness, sana magsurface yun from both ends. Hindi lang sa mga artista pati na rin sa iba pang [entities sa mundo ng showbiz],” John Lloyd concluded. - Abs-Cbn.com -
